The Famous "Cast & Blast" Package at Trout Rock Lodge on Great Slave Lake
If you want to experience something unique and hit "two birds with one stone",
why not come and visit us in the fall for some spectacular wing shooting and
enjoying the most colourful season of the year. Lying along the edge of the Canadian Shield,
the North Arm of Great Slave Lake is a traditional fall staging area for thousands
of waterfowl from all four continental flyways. This is a hard core duck hunt with
a variety of species, including:
- Greater and Lesser Scaup,
- Ringneck,
- Goldeneye,
- Buffelhead,
- Canvasback,
- Scoter,
- Merganser,
- Wigeon,
- Pintail,
- Green & Bluewinged Teal,
- Spoonbill,
- Mallard.
Generous daily limits of 8 ducks with no species restriction give abundant
shooting opportunities, with the chance to "trophy shoot" a mixed species bag.
We hunt over decoys from blinds on islands, points and channels. We also hunt
directly out of our 18' Camouflage Crestliner Jon boats hidden in the weeds.
Jump shooting from canoe is another popular method. You may also get the chance
to bag a few Canadian Honkers, Sharp Tail Grouse, Ruffed Grouse and Spruce Grouse.
The "cast" part of the package is Pike fishing and can produce some BIG Pike, but is
weather dependent. During periods of wind and rain, the Pike fishing slows down.
In contrast, duck hunting is good rain or shine.
